Like Google a few years ago, now Alphabet, Facebook is changing its name so that its upcoming products, such as a connected watch and the metaverse, do not suffer from the image of… Facebook
At the very end of his virtual conference, on October 28, Mark Zuckerberg, the boss of Facebook, announced the name of Meta. This will be the name of the structure that will cover all the activities of the firm, whether social networks — such as Facebook or Instagram –, WhatsApp or connected glasses and the Oculus Quest 2.
A strategy reminiscent of the one carried out by Google in 2015 with Alphabet to group all its activities under this banner, even if, in the end, the group is still essentially referred to by the name of its search engine. Meta is also a reminder of the concept of metaverse, i.e. the transposition of the real universe into the virtual one, which Facebook has been investing a lot in recent months.
The social network is planning to recruit 10,000 people in Europe for this concept and to spend 10 billion dollars to start with. But erasing the name of Facebook for Meta and talking about the future comes at the right time when the firm is in the wake of the torments caused by the revelations of the whistleblower Frances Haugen, the famous Facebook Files.
Since the publication of these compromising internal documents and the hearing of this ex-employee in front of the American Congress, the reputation of the social networking giant is quite tarnished. The effects are strongly felt at the level of the stock market where its price has plummeted. It is therefore by draping himself in this new veil of Meta that Mark Zuckerberg seeks to forget these incidents.
By betting on the metaverse, Facebook is also projecting itself into the future and intends to be the main actor of this virtual universe. And on the present side, the company is also starting to multiply its connected accessories. In addition to its pair of glasses made in collaboration with Ray-Ban, a new connected watch stamped Meta should be released next summer.
And precisely, an image of it has just been unearthed by a developer who has dissected the application related to Ray-Ban Stories. On the photo published by Bloomberg, we can see a watch with the same design as the Apple Watch, but with a small camera to take photos and videos directly.
While the Huawei Mate 30 Pro recently launched (without Google services), attention is already turning to the Chinese brand’s next flagships, the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro for the first half of 2020. These two smartphones could finally make a difference in terms of battery life with an entirely new type of battery.
The rumor comes from the Indian Twitter Yash Raj Chaudhary, whose reputation has yet to be established. Taken up by many sites, the information proclaims that the technical data sheet of the Huawei P40 Pro would include a 6.5-inch OLED screen in WQHD definition, a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a screen-to-body ratio of 98% thanks to its curved screen and a quadruple photo module including:
– A 64MP RYYYB primary sensor (1/1,7″, with optical stabilization)
– An ultra-wide-angle of 20 MPs
– A 12MP telephone (periscopic)
– A ToF sensor
– The ability to take Macro photos
But beyond that, the most exciting thing is the battery. According to the same source, Huawei P40 Pro would benefit from a new type of battery that includes graphene on both the anode and cathode, but also in the electrolyte.
This change would increase the battery capacity to 5500 mAh while containing its size to 70% of what its equivalent for a Lithium-ion battery would be. Besides, thanks to a 50 W charger, the Huawei P40 Pro could be fully charged in 45 minutes.
It seems, however, that manufacturers have finally succeeded in finding the right balance to integrate this component into our every day Tech objects. In addition to this rumor about Huawei, the famous Evleaks said this summer that Samsung should also switch to graphene batteries in 2020 or 2021.
Beyond our smartphones, graphene batteries represent a vital issue for the development of electric cars in the coming years. The various world powers are now seeking to adopt this technology on a large scale, and it has become a particularly important race.
With a large R&D center, Huawei is well-positioned to be among the first to use graphene in its batteries. It is not surprising to see the Chinese giant draw just before Samsung. However, it should be remembered that for the time being, this is a rumor and that it will be necessary to wait for an official announcement to confirm the information.
The use of graphene in our batteries is not new. For years now, this material has been used to cover the anode to prevent wear and tear and allow for longer service life, but the switch to a solid electrolyte is long-awaited.
This type of battery stores more energy, is much less hazardous, lasts longer, and can withstand extreme temperatures, which allows higher charging speeds.
The main problem with graphene is, therefore, its design cost, which could drive up the price of battery-powered devices.
Mark Zuckerberg believes that the Internet needs new rules. To spread his call, the Facebook boss went through his social network, but also through the Washington Post, where he was able to publish his article. Zuck identified four domains to be regulated: violent and hateful content, election protection, privacy protection, and data portability.
These are areas where Facebook has regularly been singled out for its shortcomings, as was the case very recently during the Christchurch attack.
Besides, the Facebook boss makes election legislation the second major point of his speech. Mark Zuckerberg, who points out that his social network requires advertisers to verify their identity before buying political advertisements and refers to the searchable archive of advertisers, notes that there is a lack of regulation to determine what constitutes accurate political advertising.
He also notes that “laws on online political advertising mainly target candidates and elections, rather than controversial political issues, which have been the source of more interference.” Zuckerberg thus hopes for modernization of legislation that can reflect “the reality of threats and set standards for the sector.”
Another commandment of the founder of the social network with a thumbs up concerns the protection of privacy, directly echoing the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), with which he “agrees” once again. Zuck even believes that it would be “good for the Internet” if the DGMP were to inspire other countries and into creating national legislation.
But Zuckerberg would also be in favor of the creation of a “common global framework,” which would prevent the Internet from being too fractured, as well as artificial intelligence, which could serve “clear rules.”
Mark Zuckerberg is advocating for a new global regulation that would guarantee the principle of data portability. “If you share data with a single service, you should be able to transfer it to another service securely. It gives people a choice and allows developers to innovate,” he says. In this regard, he recalled the existence of the Facebook for Developers platform.
For the creator of the social network, this domain also requires standards that are common to all platforms. “That’s why we support a standard data transfer format and the open source data transfer project,” he said.
In his article, Mark Zuckerberg begins with the most recent and relevant topic: violent and offensive content, or what he calls “harmful content.” With skillfulness, the soon-to-be-35-year-old leader responds to a specific criticism, claiming to “agree” with legislators who blame Facebook for exercising too much power over speech. “It is impossible to remove all harmful content from the Internet,” he admits. “We need a more standardized approach.
Zuckerberg thus wishes to see the creation of “third-party organizations, whose role would be to set baselines for what should be prohibited,” and to require companies to set up systems to reduce hate and violent content to a strict minimum.
When you are looking at a good way to get the most from your herbs and cannabis or even to a certain extent your concentrates you will want to know more about what is going to make a dry herb vaporizer a good investment. These devices are very trendy at the moment and provide great value for money compared to other regular smoking products that you can buy. Even with these electronic devices costing quite a bit of money, you will notice that you are going to have a lot of positive effects and preserve your health, something you would never have thought about before.
So let us explore what is going to make these a great investment over other options available to smoke weed !
While you may think that vaporizing or using wax or concentrates will be a great way to use consume your cannabis compared to traditional combustion methods, you will find this is an approach that is going to last for an extended period of time. You will not have to be concerned about these not working right for your needs over time. Without this, you could end up with the problem of the item burning out right away or even worse completely stop working.
Using a cannabis vaporizer or vaporisateur cannabis portable, you will notice that you can have a wider variety of products to use inside of it to get the results you want to have. For example, you could use one of the obvious ones which would be illegal, but you can also put in dried rose petals and other flowers to get the scents in the room. Not only that, you will find when you are using these it can provide quite a strong smell for the size of the unit, and this will help you out in getting the results you want to have.
You will also notice that the size of these devices is going to greatly vary from a manufacturer to another one. However, if you get a smaller portable unit, they tend to be smaller than any of the desktop vapes that you can put on your table at home. Portable models will not take up that much space and can be carried away easily. They will not require you to have a large carrying case for the item or extra pocket space which is great for on-the-go use. Since this is using the dry herb you do not have to be concerned about the liquid from a vape getting all over the place.
When you are looking at investing in a vape or a dry herb vaporizer you will find that it can be hard to figure out which one you should be getting. It is when you should know more about what is going to make these such a good investment to make. Once you know about what makes these a great investment and how they are going to provide you with more benefits, it will be straightforward for you to see which one of these you should be using and know why you should get this, instead of the other options.
The fundamental difference between vaporizing and smoking is the method of extracting the cannabinoids present in the herb. Vaporization is based on a heating system that extracts the cannabinoid present in plant. The vapor emitted by the heater is healthier than the smoke emitted by a combustion system, as is the case when smoking cannabis in the form of a joint, a blunt, a bong, or a good old pipe.
Indeed, the combustion of plant materials is unhealthy because it allows many chemical residues – such as carbon monoxide, tar, arsenic, acetone, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, and other toxins – to be released and ingested by your body. It should be noted that these chemical compounds are toxic and potentially carcinogenic.
These products are also called cigarette electronique pour herbe ou ecigs and can be found everywhere online in your favorite ecommerce stores!
Google’s intelligent messaging will stop in the coming months. An excellent way to put order back into a previously incomprehensible offer of messaging applications.
Google cleans up its countless email applications. The Mountain View company has just announced in this sense the imminent end of Allo, scheduled for March 2019. Presented at the 2016 Google I/O, this messaging system, powered by artificial intelligence, has never found its audience.
It must be said that Google’s strategy in this area was poorly defined. It is what Matt Klainer, Google’s vice president of email products, is trying to clarify in his statement. With the discontinuation of Allo, the artificial intelligence features enabled by the integration of the Google Wizard will finally be added to the Messages application.
Messages now fulfill the role of universal messaging for Android, managing both SMS, MMS and RCS formats. These “Rich Communication Services” allow you to send better quality images or videos, GIFs or to see when your correspondent enters text.
In the end, Messages is very similar to its namesake on iOS, which also manages SMS, MMS and fluidly chat exchanges. By continuing the comparison with iOS, the Duo application will, therefore, take on the role of FaceTime’s equivalent by remaining dedicated to video calls.
What then becomes of Hangouts in this reorganization? This fourth Google email application is gradually being redirected to the company. The company wants to position it as a competitor of Slack or Microsoft Teams. The Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet features are now included in the G Suite, a software package dedicated to companies.
While Qualcomm has gone to great lengths for its new Snapdragon 855 mobile platform, the American group has not forgotten its partner Microsoft in the Windows adventure on Arm. Until now, these computers “always connected” under Windows 10 were satisfied with Snapdragon smartphone chips, slightly adapted to the needs of PCs.
If the autonomy of these machines was impressive (up to 25 hours for this Lenovo laptop), on the other hand, the performances often left something to be desired!
Qualcomm is taking the bull by the horns, and during the Snapdragon Summit, the company unveiled the Snapdragon 8cx platform explicitly developed for Windows computers on Arm. Qualcomm does not take gloves off: this system-on-a-chip is “the most extreme Snapdragon ever designed”!
On paper, this chip impresses. It is the first PC engine engraved in 7 nm (take that Intel!), able to rival or even improve on traditional “desktop” processors. The performance of the Snapdragon 8cx would be comparable to Intel’s U Series processors (those of the MacBook Pro), which have a thermal envelope of 15 watts – except that Qualcomm’s chip only uses a 7-watt TDP.
Compared to a Y-series processor, similar to the Core i5 of the new MacBook Air, the Snapdragon 8cx would be 50% faster. Graphically, the Adreno 680 Extreme that sits next to the CPU is announced as twice as fast as the Snapdragon 850 GPU, the chip at the heart of the Windows PCs on Arm released recently. It also supports two external 4K HDR monitors, compared to only one previously.
All this without a fan, and keeping the “always connected” aspect and the autonomy of several days, however, the first Windows PCs on Arm equipped with Snapdragon 8cx will only be launched from the third quarter of 2019.
More on the snapdragon 8cx in the following video:
Computers will collect unnecessary files while you use them and you need to take the time to clean the clutter of years worth of use. With a Mac, you can perform an automatic or manual system clean. If you want to do a quick cleanup, there are some tips that you need to know about.
You have probably heard about removing your cache when it comes to troubleshooting your web browser. It is not only the web browser that stores files in a cache, but your Mac will also do this as well. This is done to allow fast access to data and reduce the need to pull the source material.
While this is something that makes it easier to get the data, these files take up space on your Mac. This use of space will generally slow everything down. There are software packages that you can use to clear the cache for you, or you could manually delete the files yourself. If you decide to do this yourself, you will need to know where to go and which files you should be removing.
There are a lot of different types of mail attachments that you get from PDF to images to documents. While this is not a problem, when you download the files, it is easy to double-click on it. When you do this, your Mac will save the data in the Mail Downloads folder on your computer. Double-clicking enough of these files will see the folder balloon and start to slow everything down.
It is why you need to remove the old Mail Downloads. All you need to do is find the Mail Downloads file in the folders section. Once you have the folder open, you select and delete all of the data. It is recommended that you empty this folder at least once a year.
When you delete files, they go to the trash bin before they are eliminated. It means that they are still taking up space on your Mac that you want for other things. To delete these files, you will need to empty the Trash bin.
It is straightforward to do. All you have to do is click and hold the Trash bin icon in the Dock. A popup will appear, and you need to select Empty Trash from the options available. Once you do this, the files will be permanently deleted from your Mac.
Having a backup f your files is essential, but these old backups take up a lot of space on your Mac. This is why you should look at removing the old backups that you no longer need. Each backup is stored on the Mac and can be accessed with iTunes. To delete your old backups, you will need to head to iTunes.
In the menu bar, you need to go to iTunes and Preferences. Click on the Devices tab to find the list of all your backups. You can then choose the backups that you no longer want or need and delete them. Visit this page to find more!
Welcome to our selection of the best Android web browsers for 2018.
We will introduce you to a series of browsers, from the most famous to the most unknown, to help you select your own. Follow the guide!
On the Google Play Store, you can find a lot of Internet browsers for your smartphone or Android tablet. Be careful; not all browsers will suit you. It’s all about finding the one that has the features you’re looking for and whose interface you like the most.
We naturally start with a classic: Google Chrome.
The in-house solution integrated by Google has many advantages: it allows you, for example, to synchronize your history and tabs with the desktop version of Google Chrome. To take advantage of the latest innovations, we invite you to download the versions under development of Chrome, which are accessible via the Beta section of the Google Play Store: Chrome Beta, Chrome Dev, and Chrome Canary.
We recommend Chrome Beta, which remains more stable than the others. However, if you want to focus on stability rather than novelty, Google Chrome will do the job correctly.
Unusually complete and intuitive to learn, Samsung Internet will delight enthusiasts with a clear and practical interface.
It includes scanning gestures, which make it easy to navigate from one tab to another, useful plug-ins to make your shopping on Amazon easier and 360° video support. Best of all, Samsung’s browser automatically blocks ads that may appear on your smartphone.
Unlike many Android browsers, Firefox makes it easy to install extensions, just like our desktop browser.
In the same vein, it is possible to install themes, to further customize your browser. Like Chrome, Firefox also allows you to synchronize your history and your favorite tabs with your desktop browser. A must if you are already using Firefox on your computer.
Thanks to the Tor Browser, you will be able to surf the Internet incognito!
It allows the Android users to browse the web without your data being collected and by blocking intrusive ads and trackers. Also equipped with a VPN and Proxy, Tor Browser will allow you to surf the Tor network. It is the browser you are advised to use to protect your online privacy!
Installed in addition to Google Chrome, which is, in any case, the default browser par excellence, Lynket (formerly called Chromer) works wonders of ergonomics.
It allows you to browse websites in the same way as if they were applications. Connected to Chrome, Lynket will open each page as a separate application. For the most confused and distracted Internet users, this is an excellent solution. Lynket also allows increasing the loading speed of pages.
The code of the latest version of the Google application reveals an interesting fact: the manufacturer would plan a charging station transforming the pixels into Google Home.
Google is now a pure and hard manufacturer, both on smartphones and on a diverse and varied galaxy of high-tech devices. For the general public, in particular, it has made a name for itself thanks to its Google Home range, which includes several speakers including Google Assistant.
That being said, American consumers (and some other European countries, but not us) can taste the Pixel range which integrates smartphones produced directly by the manufacturer. As Google Pixel 3 prepares for the end of the year, the two product categories could be back together.
It is the Google application, or at least the code of its latest beta version (8.14), which teaches us this. Indeed, Android Police has spotted that the developer would prepare a “Pixel Stand” docking station for its future Pixel 3.
The most exciting thing is that the lines found in the code indicate that the phone would suggest using Google Assistant on this dock, thus transforming it into a Google Home backup.
It’s no secret: Google relies on Wizard to keep the company going, whose revenues are currently far too based on advertising its search engine.
Such a station would thus have the double effect of being an essential accessory for a Google mobile, but also of getting users increasingly (and somewhat insidiously) used to the presence of the assistant in their home. As a result, Amazon is already very well positioned in this significant new segment of the Tech market thanks to its Echo.
XDA Developers users found a clue in the last update of the Google application on Android. There is, in particular, a line indicating “Pixel Stand” revealing a heap of other information. However, Google’s voice assistant could offer new features once Google Pixel 3 (which has unveiled brand new) is wirelessly charged – while still locked. Future feature leaks via third-party application source code are not new to the smartphone market.
The jack should disappear from the iPad Pro for the 2019 batch. Moreover, the arrival of Face ID – and its nonfunctioning in horizontal mode – could force Apple to rethink its accessories in vertical mode.
After the iPhone, it would be the iPad Pro’s turn to lose its jack socket: this is in any case what the Japanese site specialized in information relating to the supply chain of large companies, Macotakara asserts. According to our Japanese colleagues, to reduce a little more the dimensions of its tablets, Apple would remove the jack socket of iPad Pro which should be launched next year. This loss of equipment would greatly benefit the 12.9-inch model, which would lose 2 cm in height for the same screen size.
Unlike the iPhone 7, the first device of its kind to get rid of the jack, the future iPad Pro should not be delivered with the Lightning to Jack 3.5 mm adapter.
One technology chases the other: the loss of the 3.5 mm jack would be in favor of the arrival of Apple’s facial recognition technology, Face ID. A system that has a fault: it does not work in horizontal mode.
According to Macotakara, Apple would, therefore, consider encouraging its users to use it vertically, especially for the dock and keyboard. For this, the company could move its Smart Connector, which is located in the middle of the left side of the iPad (when viewed from the front) a little closer to the Lightning connector. A redesign of the accessories is therefore possible… So be careful with backward compatibility.
The internet browsing speed is a key feature to consider while picking a new smartphone. If you are paying your hard-earned money for a new phone, you want to make sure that you are able to gain access to fast and reliable internet browsing.
But iPhone lovers feel frustrated nowadays. According to the latest market research, Samsung phones are already winning the battle. With faster internet data, users are able to download websites, browse them and use the key features of the phone. This can become a major selling point that will boost the sales of Samsung phones.
The average user might not be able to tell the difference right away. But you can definitely sense the difference in a quality of a video or how fast it takes you to download a file. Apple’s iPhones are still among the best-selling and most popular smartphones on the planet. Nevertheless, the company needs to keep an eye on their main competitor as Samsung is trying to establish their status as a more reliable and user-friendly smartphone. Only time will determine the winner.
Every now and then, Facebook greets its users with a series of new privacy and settings updates. The latest one that took action starting from mid-July, aimed at giving users more control over the data that can be shared and accessed by Facebook.
Privacy concerns are hot among social media users. With a lot of news about leaks and privacy violations, Facebook has become socially and legally responsible for protecting the private data of millions of users.
The new updates give Facebook users control over the amount of data that can be accessed by third parties and by Facebook itself. Determining the type of ads shown and controlling third-party applications will help users secure their private information. While a lot of people might feel overwhelmed by the number of changes and updates, the whole issue still remains to be a major safety concern. Facebook is determined to keep on providing free services and doesn’t aim to make money by sharing the information of users. Nevertheless, people have to be wise enough to select the kind of data they choose to share online.
We are a group of internet enthusiasts. Some of us work in the field of web development and some of us are just fascinated by the power of the internet.
Like Google a few years ago, now Alphabet, Facebook is changing its name so …
